Heirloom Apple Tasting
Heirloom Apple Tasting

Of course, you’ve heard of Granny Smith and Red Delicious, but what about Esopus Spitzenburg and Belle de Boskoop? At Albemarle CiderWorks, we cultivate over 250 unique apple varieties, and we want to share them with you!

Join our CEO, in-house apple experience, and studied historian, Charlotte Shelton on a journey through culinary history and the apples that made the cut. While you taste a variety of unique and heritage apples, Charlotte will treat you to the story of each fruit, its origin, development, and how each shines best on the table (and in the bottle). From Arkansas Black to Zabergau Reinette, this unique experience offers an elevated look at apples from across the pages of history and the globe.

Tastings will begin at 1pm on all dates and run for about an hour.

Tickets Include:

  • Tasting of 6-8 rotating fruit varieties*
  • 1 glass of cider showcasing at least one of the varieties from the tasting**
  • ½ peck of apples to take home* (~5lbs)

Please contact events@albemarleciderworks.com for large group (8+) reservations

Live Music in the Orchard: Tara Mills
Live Music in the Orchard: Tara Mills Grab a glass and join us for live music by Tara Mills!Inspired by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the rich musical traditions tied to them, Tara Mills describes her music as, "original mountain americana;" an original blend of folk, bluegrass, and americana. Writing and singing most of her life, it wasn't long before Tara picked up a guitar and taught herself how to express the melodies in her head through her songs and hauntingly beautiful lyrics. Influenced by bluegrass, old country, and traditional mountain folk, she creates an original sound that captures true human feeling and emotion. Based out of Charlottesville, VA, Tara plays and writes in a couple of different musical projects.

Live Music in the Orchard: Lua Project
Live Music in the Orchard: Lua Project Enjoy live music by Lua Project! Lua is a cultural pollinator, bridging musical styles from different continents and different centuries. They write about contemporary themes, about families, and people and work and loss, but draw on the musical traditions of their own families' past.

The music is inspired by Mexican Son, Appalachian song forms, Jewish and Eastern European tonalities, baroque melodic ideas, and Scotch-Irish narrative storytelling approaches. They strive to create a repertoire that constitutes new traditional music that they will be able to pass down to their children to experience, transform, and pass on.Grab a glass and relax the weekend away in musical bliss!
