Dark Skies, Bright Kids is a primarily volunteer-run program seeking to enhance science education in Virginia elementary schools in underserved areas. Operating out of the UVA Astronomy Department, the program seeks to foster the natural curiosity of children in the surrounding community by helping them to explore the Universe in a social setting with fun, hands-on activities.​ 
From their website: "We are excited to extend everyone an invitation to join us at the 2024 Central Virginia Star Party that will be held on October 5th, 6:30 - 10:00pm, at Albemarle CiderWorks in North Garden, Virginia!Admission to this event is free and open to the entire community. There will be telescope observation, hands-on astronomy activities, and cider tastings (for adults).We hope to see you all there to share the wonderful night skies of Central Virginia with our amazing community!"
