Our event tents hold demonstrations on Blue Ridge skills, taught by local experts

For thousands of years, apples have represented more than nourishment (or "a pre-packaged snack" as Charlotte calls them). Across cultures, apples have been symbols of abundance, wisdom, love, fertility, and the mysteries of the changing seasons. As one of autumn’s most beloved fruits, the apple has long been celebrated during harvest festivals as communities gathered to give thanks, preserve the season’s bounty, and prepare for the quieter months ahead.

At Albemarle CiderWorks, we continue that tradition each fall with the Apple Harvest Festival, a celebration of the orchard, the harvest, and the community that gathers around it.

Join us on Saturday, November 7, 2026, from 10 AM to 5 PM for the 26th Annual Apple Harvest Festival, a day honoring the humble apple in all its forms: from rare heirloom varieties and traditional cider-making to shared meals, music, Appalachian skills (like jam making) and the simple joy of spending time together outdoors.

A Modern Tradition Rooted in Community

The Apple Harvest Festival itself has a history stretching back nearly four decades. Decades before Albemarle CiderWorks opened its doors, Cove Garden Ruritans Sam Henderson and Richard Gladstone began a harvest celebration in Covesville in 1986. In 2000, the festival moved to the apple orchards of what was then Vintage Virginia Apples, where it continued to grow into the beloved community gathering it is today.

Now, this annual celebration is made possible through the partnership between Albemarle CiderWorks, Vintage Virginia Apples, and the Cove Garden Ruritans.

Each year, 60 to 70 Ruritan Club members and volunteers contribute their time and energy to make the festival possible. From setting up the event space to preparing the beloved Brunswick stew and apple butter cooked over open flames, their work carries forward the same spirit found in harvest traditions throughout history: neighbors coming together to share food, celebrate the season, and support one another.

We can't wait to Celebrate the Harvest with you!
